Chapter 6 · 6.5
Storage full: making room or upgrading
Is your storage full? Then you can no longer upload new files, and syncing with your computer and phone stops working. You have two options: make room or get more storage.
Making room
- In Files, sort by Size to find the largest folders and files.
- Pay particular attention to videos, old backups, installation files and duplicate photo folders.
- Delete what you no longer need, or download it to an external drive first.
- Check in Anyone using shared files uses your storage whether others have put a lot in your shared folders. Agree with them on what can go.
Tip: deleted files and old versions don't count towards your storage. Emptying your trash therefore doesn't free up space that counts.
Getting more storage
With Nextcloud Personal, Family and Max, you can expand your storage yourself in Mijn WebOké:
- Log in to Mijn WebOké and go to My Products.
- Open your Nextcloud package.
- Under Configurable options, next to Storage space (1), choose the size you want.
- Click Save options (2).

You pay pro rata for an upgrade for the rest of your period, and it takes effect after payment; a downgrade takes effect immediately. If you downgrade, make sure you don't use more than the new size.
Using Nextcloud Free (5 GB)? Then switch to a paid package for more space. Read about that in From Nextcloud Free to a paid package, or from another Nextcloud provider and More storage or users, changing or cancelling your package.
Please note: if your storage is full, Nextcloud will also clean up deleted files and old versions more quickly to free up space. So don't wait too long to make room or upgrade.
